They say when one door closes, another door opens. Is this true with regard to entertainment? Events are key to local development including entertainment, tourism and the broader economy. With events on pause, can streaming pick up the slack? In Jamaica this is even more pronounced given that Jamaicans travel for events and visitors travel to Jamaica for events. While music, tourism and sports have been particularly hard hit by the new reality, audio and video streaming has created opportunities. This webinar looks forward to a dynamic conversation leading experts from the music industry, policy, broadcasting and events as they explore opportunities, trends and challenges facing the entertainment industry in the age of streaming.

The Embassy of the United States through the Public Affairs section has provided a grant to support a series of webinar discussions and workshops focused on streaming audio and video opportunities, development and training trends.

The webinar seeks to answer the following questions

  • Can streaming develop local talent as much as an actual event?
  • Can streaming connect local and foreign audiences in a meaningful way?
  • Is streaming sustainable?
  • Is streaming accessible regardless of cost?
  • What kind of training or capacity building is necessary, if at all?
